Upcoming changes on X platform

X’s Head of Product, Nikita Bier, has released an update on X which states that the platform is planning to roll out new features which will include displaying user details such as where X accounts were created and their country of origin. Eventually, this will appear with a flag on the platform under the section ‘Joined – month/year.’

X claims that this feature has been designed for transparency and authenticity. It will initially be rolled out on profiles of people who work at X before being rolled out to a wider audience.

As you can see in the picture below, X will display information on profiles including which country an account is based in.

Currently there are 2 options for users on their profile under the ‘about this account’ section:

1st option – Show country name

2nd option – Show region

It has been recommended to users that you select option 2 if you want to protect your online privacy. It is still unclear what this information will be based on – IP addresses, handset geographical location, etc.

To view this change go to Settings > Privacy and Safety > About your account.
